Lomography Home of the Day

I recently found out that two Tuesdays ago, I was selected as Lomography's Home of the Day! (that's the archive shot of the LHOTD write-up). I had missed seeing the tweet announcement and not visited the main Lomography website that day. I only managed to figure it out when I realised I was receiving more likes than usual and I saw the little awards medal in my LomoHome. Thank you, Lomography for thinking me worthy of this prize!

As an LHOTD awardee, Lomography gave me 50 piggies points. For Singaporeans, that translates to a whopping $100! Since Lomography was running a 10% discount on the entire store, I immediately began shopping around, trying to get my money's worth of cameras & accessories. In the end, I got a new Fisheye 2 Python (my original Fisheye had a scratch on it that's why I didn't bring it on trips this year), a Fisheye Submarine Case (for a possible trip to Bali next year!) and a Colorsplash Flash (finally, a proper working flash). I also saved $130! Go me!

I have a little bit of piggies left and with the Lomography Advent Calendar being activated, I am excited to see what other new Lomography goodies I can add to my collection. For now, I am eyeing the Cityguides and more film is always good news!

Lomography Fisheye Baby 110

It was a spur of the moment decision to attend the launch party of the latest Lomography wonder - the Lomography Fisheye Baby 110, I was just so happy to have completed a milestone in my project that I just had to go out somewhere to celebrate. I am really glad that I made it, I caught up with so many Lomography pals that I got to know through the LoBlography competition - Niki, Izad, Sasha, Esther. We should do this more often, you know.

(Instagram Photos via my Samsung Galaxy S3)

The Fisheye Baby 110 isn't likely to be a camera that I am going to buy. My rational mind says if I already don't own any 120 cameras, what am I going to do with the 110? My analogue heart goes pitter-pat at how adorable it is. I am hoping that Lomography Singapore organises a workshop for it soon, I would still like to be able to play with this little cutie.

5 Before 25: Try 120mm Film + Go For A Photography Workshop

(instagram)

It's been almost two years since I started using film, and throughout this time I studiously avoided the medium format film and cameras. 120mm film was more expensive to buy and develop, making it hard to justify buying a medium format camera and then not using it regularly. But that didn't mean I wasn't curious about it. My original plan was to borrow my friend's Diana F+ but when I saw that Lomography Singapore was holding Diana F+ workshops, I immediately signed up. To make the deal a little bit sweeter, Sasha, a new friend I had met through the LoBlography challenge, would be conducting it! (Psst, the girl in black you see in the picture below, that's Sasha!)

(LC-A+, Agfa CT Precisa)

We began with quick introductions all around, it was motley crew of all ages which I found heartening because it's never too late to start Lomography! Sasha and Hakimbo (our esteemed Lomography Singapore store manager) then took us through a presentation about the Diana F+ and its functions. I am really glad that I attended this workshop because learning to load the 120mm is HARD. The learning curve for that is really steep and as the girl who destroyed 3 rolls trying to load 35mm, way back in the day, I am afraid to imagine how many rolls of 120mm I would have destroyed trying to do it on my own.

Sasha then taught us one of her signature lomographic tricks, strobe lighting and multiple exposures. I think I look really constipated in my first attempt but really, I was just self-conscious.

After the excitement of strobe lighting and choosing colour gel filters for our cameras, we were let loose on the population of Ann Siang Hill. As we stepped out, we bumped into this adorable little boy who was super curious about all the colourful Diana F+s we were holding in our hands. Of course, he had never heard of film before. I hope when he grows older, he remembers this little encounter and discovers the wonders of film for himself.

We shot on the 12 full frames option. And while I tried to be as selective as possible, I lost a couple of shots from leaving my camera on Bulb mode (when will you learn!). At least I corrected myself before the roll ran out and took a few photographs that I am really pleased with.

I can see why the Diana F+ is such a popular camera, the photographs are dreamy yet sharp. I would dearly love to own one of them one day (although I fear it may be more of a decorative item than a camera, which is why I have my eye on the Urban Outfitters Diana F+ Dreamer clone). Someday...

the loblography singapore challenge

about three weeks ago, i was invited by (the newest kid on the lomography block) lomography singapore to register for the loblography singapore challenge. with nothing to lose and all to gain from three weeks playing with the la sardinia, i threw my name into the ring and waited for the results of the shortlist.

boy, was i surprised when i opened my inbox on friday morning to find out that i had been selected as one of twenty of singapore's coolest bloggers (their words, not mine although i am grateful they think of me as such) to take part in the challenge!

lomography singapore wasted no time starting the challenge this morning when they called all the bloggers for a meet up at the red dot museum to explain the rules of the challenge and to hand over the cameras to us. we drew lots for the cameras and i picked the fischers fritze which included the fritz the blitz flash! i am terribly excited to begin shooting with this camera so for the next three weeks, expect nothing but a constant bombardment of posts about the lomography la sardinia camera!

once again, big thanks to lomography singapore for giving me this opportunity and a shout out to the analog dork whom i met at the meetup!

oh fisheye, you so fly

i swear i really wasn't planning on buying another camera so soon after the instax mini. i had earlier earmarked the fisheye for a possible purchase next year but suddenly lomography started giving out piggy points, and then a 10% discount, and then more piggy points. in a flash, i managed to gather enough piggies and discounts to minus off 40 usd from the total amount. it was too good to be true and before i knew it, i had clicked pay and a fisheye 2 was hurtling from hong kong towards me! i completed my order on monday and the fisheye 2 was sitting happily on my desk on wednesday. two pats on lomography's back for the incredibly quick shipping!

i snapped my unboxing process.

as part of lomography's retail therapy promo, they also threw in a klick max 200 (expired) film for every order. Overall, pretty sweet deal. Here's hoping that there will be a sunny day this week for me to run a quick test roll through it!

oh and tonight, i discovered two wonderful blogs, here comes the sun and andrew+carissa. they give me hope.

sunday afternoon

Even though I have at least 20 rolls in my film stash, I couldn't resist buying more when I stopped by Triple D this afternoon. I have been dying to try the lomography redscale film for a long time because I really like the colours that it produces. And since I like experimenting with obscure films, I picked up the efiniti UXi super 200 films as well. They were going for 3 for $10, too good a deal really to not pick any up.

LomotionSG School Doubles

I just joined another lomography competition! A couple of forum users from Lomotion, a local Singaporean lomography forum, are organising Lomotion School Doubles, a doubles photography competition. We have to shoot our rolls in a school. Once we are done with our rolls, we exchange with our partners and shoot the second layer! It should be really fun and I can't wait for the competition to start. I am already plotting in my head which locations and landmarks in the university that I will be shooting!

i am a top uploader!

I just logged onto the Lomography website and I was reading through their latest news and articles when I came onto the Top Uploaders of the Week article. As I scrolled the list of the top uploaders, marvelling at their ability to take so many pictures, I suddenly saw my username starring the bottom of the list! I was so shocked and surprised! I am the 50th top uploader for the week of August 2-8, with 82 uploads. The top uploader had almost 500 images, which is astounding! Right! I need to get back to work on my posts for the weekends. I have so much to share this weekend! I got my film from Rag Day processed and scanned, so I need to upload those and post them up! Hope everyone's having a happy weekend!

go team asia!

Lomography is organising a special rumble for the Photokina 2010, the biggest photography trade fair that will happen from 21-26 September at Cologne, Germany! It's actually not just one rumble but many rumbles! Lomography has created continental-specific rumbles for all lomographers to submit their shots on what makes each continent unique based on five categories, nature&animals, cities&architecture, people, cuisine and home.  The winners and selected photographs will be exhibited on a huge LomoWall at Photokina!

How exciting is that? You not only win piggy points  but also get your photographs to be viewed by everyone at Photokina!

So earlier this afternoon, I went through all my Holga shots and entered 26 images for the Go Team Asia! rumble. I doubt I will win or even be selected but it's fun to enter a competition! You get that little spark of hope, hoping that maybe maybe the judges will like one of your shots and you could be selected.

Here's a few of the shots that I submitted for the rumble:
